WES Promoted National Flood Safety Preparation & Awareness Week

HOUSTON -May 21-25, 2018 - Weisser Engineering & Surveying (WES) supported and promoted Flood Safety Preparedness & Awareness during National Flood Safety Awareness Week, May 21-25, 2018. WES encouraged all to know their risk, take action and be an example in their community.

WES went on further to educate the public by publishing the following statements:

"Flooding is a nationwide threat to the United States and its territories throughout every year. However, not all floods are alike. Some floods develop slowly, while others, such as flash floods, can develop in just a few minutes and without visible signs of rain. Additionally, floods can be local, impacting a neighborhood or community, or very large, affecting entire river basins and multiple states. Governor Greg Abbott writes, "It is crucial that Texans understand and respect the power of water. Planning and preparing are the keys to reducing loss of life and property. Texans should be familiar with the implications of flood watches and warnings, assemble a "preparedness kit" of supplies, develop a communication strategy for reaching friends and family members in case of emergency and designate a meeting place in case of evacuation". Everyone should be aware of flood hazards no matter where you live or work, but especially if you are in low-lying areas, near water, behind a levee or downstream from a dam. Even very small streams, gullies, creeks, culverts, dry streambeds or low-lying ground that appear harmless in dry weather can flood. WES encourages all to "Turn Around, Don't Drown". Be Prepared For Flooding By:

  • Determine Risk of Flooding by Reviewing Flood-Hazard Maps
  • Build an Emergency Kit and Make a Family Communications Plan
  • Elevating Furnace, Water Heater and Electric Panel in Home, If Possible
  • Hold a Discussion, Drill, or Exercise
